YEAR-END PROCESS June 29, 2016
Important. Time Sensitive.
We're now at PTA year-end; time to complete the PT Avenue database transition, as follows:
Enter your 2016-2017 officers into PT Avenue. The brief instructions here describe how to enter officers into PT Avenue. Be sure to enter a working email address for every officer.
Remember, June 30 is the due date for PTAs with the membership only version of PT Avenue to complete the end of year process in PT Avenue. Next week, WSPTA staff will begin doing the end-of-year process for PTAs who have not done so themselves, and each PTA will be invoiced $25 for this service.
After your PTA has completed the end-of-year process your PTA can begin entering 2016-2017 memberships, whenever your PTA is ready.

MEMBERSHIP SERVICE FEE REMITTANCE PROCESS
.Thank you so much for using our membership database to enter your new members for the 2014-2015 year and for the work you do for the children of your PTA and Washington State! Each month your unit will receive via email a remittance form (or invoice) which includes the per member dues for national, state, and council (if applicable.) Those units who are in a council will also send the per member council fees directly to the WSPTA office. (The WSPTA will collect these fees and send them to the councils.) Best business practice is to pay these dues monthly. Your first invoice will be delivered to you by October 3, 2014. The October 25, January 25, May 25 dates still hold their traditional importance related to registration awards, voting delegate qualification, and good standing. posted October 7, 2014
HELPFUL HINTS FOR ENSURING MEMBERS GET THEIR MEMBERSHIP AND BENEFITS CARDS Membership Chairs: Membership cards (which are needed to access member benefits) are emailed to each individual member, so when you are enrolling your members in the WSPTA Membership Enrollment website, you need to enter the email addresses of all members to ensure that members get their own individual cards. Membership cards for members without email addresses are emailed to the membership chair or the president to print and distribute to these individuals. Please help us provide membership services by entering the correct email addresses for your members when you enroll them on the membership website. Thank you for your help with this process.
TWO SIGNATURES REQUIRED ON PTA CHECKS With the membership remittance invoices coming in, the WSPTA would like to take this time to remind PTAs that according to the WSPTA Uniform Bylaws, two signatures are required on all PTA checks. Checks without two signatures will be returned to the local unit and will need to be resubmitted with two signatures. You can avoid the extra time, cost and effort involved by avoiding this error and ensuring your PTA check have two signatures. Thank you for ensuring your PTA’s financial security by following this best practice! posted Oct 16, 2014 (from WSPTA Leadership News)

PLEASE RENEW YOUR PTA MEMBERSHIP
Thank you for supporting PTA through your membership this past year. Your membership helped PTA create a school climate that encouraged parent engagement and improved student learning. Please look for your PTA’s membership table, membership enrollment material or announcements at your school’s fall events to renew your membership in PTA this next school year and help us make every child’s potential a reality!
PTA is an association with a 100+ year history of promoting the well-being and education of all children. Your membership in PTA purchases: A clear message to your children that you value their education and want to be involved in their school; a means to get to know other parents and teachers at your children’s school; coordinated statewide and nation-wide advocacy efforts; leadership and personal development opportunities; programs for your PTA; free technical support, resources and training (region conference training and PTA and the Law workshops).

2014-2015 Membership goals
The strength of your PTA lies in its membership—the parents, teachers, school administrators, business leaders, and community members who devote themselves to making a positive difference in the lives of children. Members are the lifeblood of PTA and provide the passion, leadership, and hard work needed to fulfill PTA’s Mission.

15 in 15 membership drive
We are pleased to announce the WSPTA 15 in 15 membership drive currently in motion! The fun thing is that you don’t have to do anything to be eligible for the drawing, other than to recruit and enter 15 new memberships between now and February 28th and make sure that your PTA is paid up-to-date by the end of February (invoices being sent out this week). If you meet those requirements, your PTA’s name will be placed into a drawing for four (4) of your board members, to each have a three-day WSPTA convention registration paid for, and one PTA tablecloth for your events! Any questions, please contact your Region Membership Chair or the WSPTA State Membership Director, Caroline Brown, or [email protected]. posted Feb 5, 2015

MAKE THE MEMBERSHIP PITCH RELEVANT TO MALES
The number one reason men join PTA is "to work to improve the school for the benefit of my child/children." Therefore, explain how a father's involvement in PTA shows added interest in his child's education and school activities,
provides greater support for his child's teachers and school and improves relationships between parents and school personnel. Use specific messaging and advertising aimed at men. Be sure to show men's involvement in your PTA in your
communications to members and potential members.
Ask the women in your PTA to invite the men in their children's lives to join PTA. Moms can (and should)
influence dads to join PTA! Create more volunteer opportunities and special events for dads. Events aimed at fathers can raise awareness that other fathers are actively involved. When men see that other men are involved, they are more
likely to join. Emphasize that becoming a PTA member doesn't necessarily involve a large time commitment. Communicate with men the way they want to be reached. Men want fewer meetings, and at more convenient times, and they want meetings to have a clear agenda and be results-oriented. Brief communications tend to make men pay more attention to the message or issue at hand—and more likely to participate.
Seek male members in the community. Present the PTA message at local service clubs that have a large male
contingent, such as Rotary, Kiwanis, or Lions clubs. If men see that other club members support the work of PTA, they might be more likely to join. Recognize and celebrate members. Reinforcing men's contributions, while being mindful of
what all members do for PTA, creates a positive atmosphere.

MEMBERSHIP – IT’S ABOUT GOALS!
What’s the secret is to a good membership campaign?
It’s about goal setting and sharing those goals. Membership is about getting those around you excited to be part of the PTA. When someone becomes a member, make them feel like they are part of the success of your PTA/PTSA in reaching the goal.
TO DO:
•Know what your membership numbers from last year so you can compare how you are doing this year.
•Set a goal and share it! Do you want more males to join PTA? Put it on your membership form you want to increase male member by 20% this year!
•Make sure every member of your Board knows how to give a 30 second “why should you join PTA” pitch
•At all times your exec team should know the current membership count and the % of students that represents.
•Celebrate your successes – posters, newsletters, emails, announcements, Facebook!
•Treat every member like they matter, because they do!
RESOURCES:
1. Join the membership listserv and learn from your colleagues around the state. #email [email protected] & ask to be on the listerv.
2.Take advantage of the resources on the WSPTA Membership website:
3. Email your Region Membership chair.
